Regional Environmental Manager in Training - Pilgrim's

*** This position will be based out of a Pilgrim’s facility based on the person and the company need!


This position is responsible for managing information systems, reports and communications regarding environmental compliance at all of our locations. You will participate with the environmental team in developing and maintaining standards and training documents. Under the direction of the Head of Environmental, serve as an organizer, facilitator, analyst and problem-solver on environmental compliance with the goal of zero environmental exceedances. You will be responsible for auditing and assisting with compliance at 2 to 3 complexes. Program areas include water, wastewater, air, and hazardous substances and wastes.

If you want to come to work every day and do the same repetitive tasks, this job may not be the best fit. There are certainly aspects of this job that will be repetitive, but you will be working on a variety of projects, and building analyses and processes from the ground up. At times, you will be challenged to become a subject matter expert on something that you previously had no knowledge of. There will be plenty of support and guidance, but you will need to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone at times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical support and information to environmental team, heads of operations, and complex managers
  • Travel to and audit / support 2 or 3 Complexes with multiple facilities each
  • Prepare and distribute weekly, monthly and quarterly environmental reports
  • Create, and, when necessary, improve analyses of environmental data
  • Identify and analyze compliance gaps
  • Maintain environmental web-based databases and SharePoint filing system
  • Coordinate the electronic filing and storage of permit documents
  • Work on a range of projects with a company-wide effect, relating to:
    • Development of standard operating procedures
    • Implementation and tracking of training
  • Respond to frequent requests for one-off analyses of smaller-scale issues
  • Work in successful partnership with Complex environmental managers to assist in ensuring regulatory compliance and to develop action plans to close gaps.
  • Track federal and state environmental regulatory developments affecting the food industry and effectively develop and communicate actions plans for compliance with new or pending regulations.
  • Excellent people skills required to maintain good relationship with internal customers.
  • Ability to influence change and to handle multiple issues and projects simultaneously.
  • Some travel required (not more than 25%)

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required for the position: A bachelor’s degree in a science related field (engineering, environmental science etc.) or completion of a master’s program that has a significant environmental component; Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks simultaneously; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting. Strong attention to details; Strong analytical skills; Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; Self-starter who can complete daily activities with minimal no supervision; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products; Excellent organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work; Ability to work effectively on multiple assignments; Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities; and the Willingness and ability to perform other unrelated duties as required and learn new processes and technologies. Knowledge of food or agriculture fundamentals a plus.
