The City of Moberly is accepting applications for a Water Treatment Plant Operator. Position performs skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant and related structures, assuring that the public has a safe and reliable water supply and assuring for the operation within budget.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collects water samples, conducts specific tests measuring quality of the water sample assuring accuracy for following the correct protocol for each specific test.
- Analyzes test results. Records results of the tests on daily work sheets assuring for accuracy and timeliness. Assures that the chemicals are properly balanced at all times.
- Conducts follow-up testing on a regular routine assuring for continuous monitoring of water in process.
- Conducts a procedure of back washing filters on a regular and routine basis assuring for proper operation.
- Within one year of employment, obtains a Class D Water Operator Certificate.
- Maintains an ongoing awareness of the appropriate use of all equipment assuring that variances from the norm can be recognized.
- Receives notification of equipment requiring maintenance attention, and conducts a physical inspection of malfunctioning equipment and makes a diagnosis.
- Develops a plan for corrective action, assembles supplies and equipment needed to make the needed repairs, assuring that supplies and equipment are available.
- Completes the plan assuring for safety, and on limited occasions, provides instruction and training for personnel assuring for an optimal training experience.
- Develops a plan for routine preventative maintenance assuring that all equipment is to be monitored.
- Completes the plan assuring for thoroughness and for the proper operation of all equipment by listening, feeling and observing.
- Communicates regularly with supervisor regarding process or status changes assuring for continuous communications.
- Maintains a log of the time the equipment has been in operation, maintenance activities, availability of equipment, and any unusual conditions concerning equipment, safety or operating conditions that the next shift should be aware of and assuring for accuracy.
- Keeps the environment clean and free of safety hazards.
- Monitors continuously the computers and other sensoring devices that record the remote station’s activities.
- Reacts to any noted malfunction assuring for timeliness.
- Notifies the appropriate party of malfunction assuring for timeliness.
- In some instances, conducts follow up to correct the malfunction assuring for safety.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be able to obtain a “D” Drinking water license within 12 months of employment.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Ability to work with others or by yourself.
Adapt to frequently changing conditions and respond quickly with critical thinking skills.
Must be able to multitask and keep track of several different responsibilities while ensuring all drinking water regulations are met.
Starting salary dependent on qualifications.
