SUMMARY
Read Individual Plans and be aware of behavior support plans. Provide habilitation and vocational training as described in individuals’ Individualized Plan. Chart data regularly and accurately. Be a good role model for individuals. Encourage individual independence. Remain actively engaged with individuals while on the job and ensure safety for the individuals while on the job providing services and ensure safety for the individuals. Take individuals to a variety of places in the community designed to help them achieve the goals stated in their training plans simultaneously being of interest to them. Maintain individual and program confidentiality. Do not discuss identifiable individual information or information about other agency personnel in the presence of others outside the work area. Maintain confidentiality of all individuals’ Protected Health Information used for treatment, payment, health care, etc. as set up by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996. (HIPAA). Maintain individual and program confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Support Staff shall be organized, thorough, and able to work with a minimum of supervision and a self-starter. Direct Support Staff should have a working knowledge of computers, and specifically the use of data management, spreadsheet and Microsoft office software. This person should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work across departments in the organization in a harmonious, productive and professional manner. Other duties may be assigned.
Additional Specific Responsibilities include the following.
1. Follow Medicaid waiver, licensing regulations and CARF principles as outlined.
2. The incumbent will work with and provide support as outlined in their IP’s (Individual Plan).
3. Reports to Program Manager for other duties assigned.
4. Abide by ICAN Personnel Policies as a condition of employment.
5. Participate in meetings and committees as directed.
6. Take individuals to a variety of places in the community designed to help them achieve the goals stated in their taring plans simultaneously being of interest to them.
7. Provide Department of Mental Health (DMH) adequate logs for each activity and each individual for the hours with each individual within the required DMH/ICAN time frame.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have at least a High School Diploma or GED. It is preferred for this person to have one-year experience providing services to individuals with disabilities in a community-based program. The knowledge of philosophy and principles of Direct Support Staff. The ability to represent the Direct Support Staff program in the local and professional community in a professional manner
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read English. Ability to write reports, service notes, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, individuals, individuals, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The Direct Support Staff must be an insurable driver with Class E license as determined by the company's underwriter. This person must be able to successfully complete and pass; Level 1 Medication Assistant (L1MA), CPR and First Aid Course, Abuse and Neglect Training, Positive Behavior Support, Missouri Quality Outcomes, Person Centered Planning, and 14 hours of employment curriculum training, approved by the Division of DD.
